The next time you’re driving down the highway in Utah, keep your eyes out for some hilarious comedy along the way. It appears more than a few employees in the highway department have a sense of humor and they’re on a mission to entertain drivers making their way along their journeys.
With warnings that reference “YOLO” (you only live once), buckling up as an act akin to romance — and mentions of Star Trek’s Captain Kirk — some of the signs are quite a hoot.
With all this roadside comedy, we started wondering what some of the funnier highway signs have been around the country as well as around the world. It turns out this is a rich subject area with more than a few websites devoted to the subject matter.
1. Reader’s Digest once wrote about the topic and found signs for “Beware Walking Dead” as well as “Stop” spray painted on a street, but misspelled as “Sotp.” The article is worth a glance.
2. LifeBuzz.com also covered the subject in a blog post that includes real signs sure to make you chuckle. Some favorites on this list include a sign for a unicorn crossing as well as a sign that states “right lane must right left.”
3. Of course, The Huffington Post dedicated an entry to the topic as well. A highlight of their page includes an elevated sign over a roadway that reads “If you hit this sign then you hit that bridge.”
What hilarious signs will you discover on your own journeys? Keep your eyes open and prepare for a good belly laugh.
