America’s economy revolves around the trucking industry. 70% of goods are shipped via long-haul truck and there are approximately 15.5 million commercial trucks on the road today.
While the contributions of the industry are great, all of those diesel fuel emissions, belching black smokestacks and dripping fluid chambers can take a toll on groundwater resources, threatened ecosystems and the environment as a whole.
Don’t get us wrong — trucking is our livelihood and we love oil, horsepower and torque as much of any of you, but we also believe that there is room for improvement in everything that we do. After all, the more efficient the trucking industry becomes, the more profit we can make and in turn, more innovation will follow.
One of the most exciting developments in terms of eco-friendly trucking is the rise of the electric semi. Tesla is working on a model, but it’s Thor Trucks that really stands out. The company’s ET-One not only looks amazing, according to Fast Company, it can haul 80,000 pounds of cargo and travel over 300 miles on a single battery charge, Thor Trucks has already partnered with a manufacturer and will be releasing their first models at some point during 2019.
