When explaining what we do to people outside of the truck driving industry, many of us usually say we’re “truck drivers” and leave it at that. If you’re a truck driver though, you know that there are many types of driving jobs. At Double D, we do a lot of them. From heavy equipment trucking, asphalt oil trucking to dry van and reefer freight, we cover a lot of surfaces. A lot of drivers like a specific type of driving, maybe due to the difference in how far they travel or the freight they carry.
We want to give you a taste of all the different types of driving we do. So, today we’re going to dive into the benefits of being a tanker driver.
Benefit #1: More time at home. Tanker truck jobs are typically regional or local hauls, which means drivers are typically home every night. When you’re a tanker truck driver, you often get to stay closer to home while spending more time with the ones you love, and doing a job you love. If home time is a priority for you, consider becoming a tanker truck driver. At Double D, we have a lot of single-day round trips including trips to Sinclair, WY back to Salt Lake City and North Salt Lake and Tooele to Central and Southern Utah.
Benefit #2: Good pay and benefits. Tanker truck drivers make good money for the industry. At Double D, we have $.60/mile pay with high miles. It typically equates to $1,500-2000 a week. We also have great benefits like 401(k) and a $500 signing bonus.
Benefit #3: Short load/unload times. Typical load and unload times are one hour or less at most locations. You’re usually in and out in about 45 minutes when unloading a tanker, and loading typically takes around 45 minutes as well.
Benefit #4: Control your day. Because we have built trust with our suppliers and customers they allow you to control the load and unload of your truck, meaning you are in control of how quickly you get in and out of their facilities.
