Did you know there are 7.3 million people employed by the trucking industry? Even more impressive is this statistic accounts for one out of every 16 jobs in America, meaning a whopping six percent of all Americans have a job in trucking. More shocking yet is even with all those millions of laborers, the trucking industry is still short of employees and drivers.
With all of that hard work and the tens of thousands of miles driven, it’s time trucking employees be recognized for their deep commitment and dedication, and America is doing just that by celebrating National Truck Driver Appreciation Week from September 11-17, 2016.
During that week, morning news programs throughout the country will broadcast a discussion about the importance of our profession from the American Trucking Associations’ offices in Dayton, Ohio. America’s Road Team Captains will discuss driving as a career, and the ATA’s First Vice Chairman will offer insights into just how essential and vital these jobs are for America to function properly on a day-to-day basis.
For instance, more than 70 percent of the nation’s total freight tonnage is moved via trucks. In addition, nearly 80 percent of U.S. communities rely on trucking for delivery of basic goods and supplies to keep our homes and businesses operating normally.
Celebratory events will be held throughout the country to mark this Appreciation Week. And we want you to know that we appreciate all that you do as well.
