In December, members of the Utah Trucking Association donated more than $10,000 to the families of fallen police officer Cody Brotherson and Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Ellsworth. Brotherson, only 25, was killed in the line of duty and Ellsworth was hit by a car at the age of 31.
The UTA’s president, Mark Droubay, spoke about the important role police and state troopers play in keeping roads and highways safe — something that is vital to the trucking industry. As such, the association felt it was in a unique position to do something meaningful to assist the families of the brave individuals who served the greater good, but are sadly no longer with us.
As a non-profit association, the UTA is familiar with the hard work and dedication it takes to serve the state of Utah in order to help it reach its full potential. But the members of the association can never know what it’s like to literally give their lives in order to make Utah a safer place for all who live there.
By providing this donation, the UTA has found one small way it can pay its respects to the enormous sacrifices these two individuals made, as well as the families who loved them.
