It’s somewhat common for large corporations to have a charitable arm of their work. Often, these charities align with the missions of such corporate entities, forming a positive cycle of donations going toward good causes.
Many trucking companies involve themselves in charitable activities as well, but currently there’s no over-arching, organized methodology for the industry as a whole. The American Trucking Associations is thinking about changing this fact. Currently, the ATA is conducting a survey of all of its members to get a sense of what type of charitable work they already do.
ATA President and CEO Chris Spear has stated that he believes individual trucking companies give back to their communities to the tune of billions of dollars per year. The hope is that the survey will provide some sense of commonality between what these companies tend to care about, and how they choose to donate their money and time. Such activities could range from disaster relief to disease awareness to youth and education concerns.
Once the survey is compiled, the ATA will then consider establishing a charitable foundation to better support these efforts in a more organized way.
There’s a lot of good left to be done, and together — and under the ATA’s leadership — our impact can be even greater.
