The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance has announced that Brake Safety Week 2016 will be from September 11-17. This is a nationwide effort by the agency to make sure that trucks are in top operating condition, and as such law enforcement across North America will be stopping trucks to conduct random inspections.
Because of this, it’s important to have trucks receive the proper maintenance beforehand to prevent any problems or concerns that could arise during the inspection. (Of course, this is a good practice in general.) Any defective or out-of-adjustment brakes will automatically place the truck on the out-of-service list, according to the CVSA.
The agency has put together a list of things to look for when preparing for Brake Week. Among them are loose parts, fluid leaks, malfunctioning warning lights, and worn components.
We cannot stress how important it is to prepare for Brake Week. In 2015, authorities inspected 18,817 trucks, and 2,321 were placed on the out-of-service list. Don’t let this happen to you!
