There are so many potential changes the trucking industry is facing over the course of the next several years that it’s very difficult to keep track of them all.
To help offer us a road map for those many issues, the American Trucking Associations’ President and CEO, Chris Spear, has outlined a multi-tiered agenda for the future.
Many of these changes involve government regulations and the need to update or alter laws in order to accommodate an evolving industry.
Among Spear’s chief concerns are the following items: automated trucking, collision avoidance systems, compressed natural gas fuel container inspections, connected vehicles, removing trailers from the Phase 2 GHG rules, speed limiters, the revision of NOx standards, as well as trailer underride guards.
These issues are complex and multi-faceted, meaning they will require much more debate and consideration before changes can be made to current-state rules. Paramount to Spear is the need for the trucking industry to remain profitable, safe, reliable, and beneficial to American families.
To follow the progress with these issues, stay focused on the ATA and its agendas, and be sure to become involved in local politics. Writing your congressman or congresswoman and voicing your concerns regarding these many changes is democracy at its finest.
