The Mid-America Trucking Show that occurred in Louisville, Kentucky at the end of last month was certainly eventful. Throughout the show industry insiders gave their insights into the trucking industry, while trucks were on display and important meetings took place.
Despite the activity, there were some noticeable changes at this year’s event. Many of the heavy-duty truck makers decided to skip this year’s event in favor of going into an every-other-year rotation against the international IAA Show in Germany, which will be held later this fall. Based on this, there is every indication that 2017 will return to normal numbers.
While attendance this year was indeed lighter, the impact to the industry remained strong. Attendees and exhibitors alike noticed a heightened interest in the equipment that was on display.
“People are looking at the equipment and asking questions instead of just kicking tires,” said exhibitor Dave De Poincy.
In addition, several meetings took place, including a gathering of the Women in Trucking Association, which took the opportunity to name their 2016 Image Team. About 400 people attended the meeting, out of which 13 were named to the team.
Technology was discussed at the show as well, with mobile apps and e-commerce continuing to make their presence known in the trucking industry.
