Like any industry, career trucking has its pros and cons. One of the biggest positives is the opportunity to do some great American sightseeing while on the highway.
With everything from roadside kitsch (want to see the world’s largest ball of twine, anyone?) to majestic views like the Grand Canyon or the Rocky Mountains, life on the road offers many people chances to take in scenery they otherwise may never have witnessed firsthand.
There is a downside to the job as well, however. One of the negatives truckers may face is long hours away from home. But experienced drivers know how to create a sense of home while on the road, doing everything from checking in with family with a Bluetooth-enabled device to finding favorite destinations along the highway.
Recently, the website MentalFloss.com created a list of the top 10 best rest stops in the United States, which do just that – make people feel at home while they’re on the road. Making the list is everything from Sapp Bros Food & Fuel (with locations in Utah through Pennsylvania) to Bear Lake Rest Area & Overlook (also in Utah) to the world’s largest truck stop: The Iowa 80.
Of course, becoming a recurring visitor at one of these locations – with their full menus, scenic views and varied entertainment options – won’t be the same as your own living room.
