Recently, the American Trucking Associations headed to Capitol Hill in order to discuss with Congress the need for significant investment in the nation’s highway infrastructure.
The President of FedEx and the Werner Enterprises President, told special committees in Congress that our highway and bridge systems are in dire need of improvements throughout the country. Also, that trucking companies are losing millions of dollars each year due to damage caused to their vehicles as well as time lost in clogged traffic. Many of these problems could be solved by way of repairs, new development, and the creation of alternative routes.
Improvements such as road repairs, bridge replacements, and new highway construction will save drivers hundreds of frustrated hours on the road, and also extend the life of trucks and rigs that are jolted along crumbling paved surfaces.
As a whole, America is falling behind as the infrastructure construction boom, that occurred after World War II and into the 1970s, continues to age and fall apart. Members of the ATA fervently believe that a new wave of investment needs to be made in order to prepare the nation for the next 50 years of development and transportation.
Trucking organizations will continue to lobby for these investments. The ATA has made these important tasks a priority in their overall agenda.
