Unfortunately, the world has seen some dangerous events in the past few decades. In fact, ever since 9/11 America’s eyes have been more widely opened to the perils of terrorism. With the advent of the Internet and the spread of social media, it seems the risks have become more visible and the perpetrators have become more creative.
In July 2016, scores of people were killed and hundreds were injured in Nice, France, when a truck drove through a Bastille Day celebration and rammed through large groups of people gathered for the occasion.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) can’t turn a blind eye to the possibility that a similar event could happen here in the United States. As a result, they has advised that all trucking companies remain on high alert at all times and to continually ramp up their security measures as a precautionary measure.
Police in our nation’s largest cities are aware of this threat and are also taking steps to help protect the public. To be even more proactive, the TSA is running a “See Something, Say Something” campaign to help drivers, staff, and passengers of trucks (and other large vehicles) to be vigilant with their awareness of this issue.
The Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) president, Jake Jacoby, said the following:
“TRALA members realize they are often the first line of defense against a possible terror attack that could involve a commercial truck. We will continue to coordinate with public and private organizations in order to try and keep us all safe.”
