Truck driving is a terrific career that offers millions of individuals a reliable livelihood with a steady income — all while enjoying the freedom of the open road. But no job is without its pitfalls, and trucking is no different. To us, some of the biggest concerns drivers must remember to keep in mind are safety, safety, safety.
The interstates and highways around this great nation of ours are fraught with dangers, from distracted drivers, poorly maintained road surfaces as well as congested areas during peak traffic times, just to name a few. All of these issues can present stressful situations to a trucker who’s just trying to get the job done. But these problems are all the more challenging when Mother Nature decides to layer on a few difficulties of her own.
Winter can bring havoc to our roads, no matter what part of the nation you live or work in. From the snowy and icy conditions of the north, the mixed precipitation and sleet of the Midwest and upper South, to moist and wet conditions in the South itself, none of it is pleasant to drive through.
Keeping this in mind while Winter is upon us, the ATA has put together some best practices and recommendations for driving on difficult surfaces during this time of year. These are important lessons for each of us to brush up on, no matter how long we’ve been on the road. Your safety is paramount, not to mention the safety of the millions sharing the roads with our trucks.
We want everyone to be safe this season, from Key West to Anchorage. At Double D Distribution, we pride ourselves on our excellent, reliable, and careful teams. Let’s all keep these values in mind while navigating our way through the wintry mix.
